The Hot Air Balloon in the Construction Site

What an interesting week for the Heinzlmeirs. Here is a little recap:

Last Saturday:

We went and saw the new movie Zootopia, and it was awesome! It has an excellent plot, perfect animation, and is super funny. Definitely check it out if you get the chance!

Last Sunday:

We had our good friends, the Heberts, over for dinner and enjoyed a little game of Taboo. If you are looking for a fun and easy game, get this one!

Monday:

I decided that I am going to make an app and write a book! Not necessarily in that order, but I am beginning to learn the basics of coding. I don't really know how to do either of those things, but it could be fun, so why not give it a try?

Tuesday:

Today was the first Face to Face for YSA, with Elder Holland. Our friend Levi was the host! It was a great opportunity to get some advice from our church leaders in a less formal situation. Check it our here: Face to Face with Elder Holland. After I got home from work at 9:15pm, we built a fort in our living room! No one is ever too old to build a fort. Lindsey helped me study for my midterm and we fell asleep.

Wednesday:

Sleeping in a fort is fun, but not conducive to the most restful sleep. The good news is, it was really fun, so I say it was worth it. I had my neuroscience midterm today, and thanks to Lindsey's help, it was a success! We decided we wanted pupusas for dinner on Thursday and thus began preparations. (For anyone who has made them before, you know it takes a lot of work).

Thursday:

Today was adventurous! After work in the morning, I scrambled to finish all my Chinese homework in time for class. Then Lindsey took me to the DMV for my driving test. This makes me sound like I'm 16, but I needed to get a Utah license for insurance purposes, and they wanted me to take the test! Luckily I have a little experience, so I passed! We had the Halls over and finished making the pupusas. They turned out great!

Friday:

Netflix... enough said right there.

Saturday:

On my way to work, I saw this (and was really confused):

I think going in a hot air balloon would be amusing, but also scary at the same time. After work, we went and picked up Chinese food from Wild Ginger. They give you a lot of food, and its a fair price, plus we were craving Chinese, which resulted in a fine meal. Homework (a.k.a Netflix) took up the remainder of the evening (but we watched a documentary, which is educational right?).

Hope you all had a good week too!

Inside Out and all that Jazz

What a week at the Heinzlmeir home! I feel like we had a lot of fun this week, finally able to balance that with our work loads. Lindsey did her usual drive to and from Logan on Tuesday and Thursday, safely I might add. Work was pretty busy, several people moving into the complex where she works. School has been picking up for us both, assignments galore and more midterms around the corner. With all of that we still managed to go to the dollar theatre to see "Inside Out" and went to a Utah Jazz game last night. We had a blast!

Quick review of "Inside Out": one of the best movies this year! In my Behavioural Neuroscience class, people kept referencing the movie, so we figured we should check it out. I love that they used the universal emotions of joy, anger, fear, disgust and sadness (universal in the sense that the facial expressions we use to portray these emotions are consistent across cultures). I also like the fact the the main character, Riley, plays hockey! I would definitely recommend going to see it if you haven't already.

The Jazz game was awesome too, the beat the Grizzlies and we were in the 7th row! Not to mention we had Dippin' Dots for the first time since I was 10 years old. All in all these things made for a pretty good week.

The Prince and Princess of Summer

It's been a while since we have posted, and hopefully the reminder we received at church today, to keep records for our posterity, will call me to change my ways, and make better records of our life. We just finished watching "The Prince of Egypt" with the Merrill's, what a great movie (especially the music). It reminded me that no matter how small we may feel, God is always there for us, and can lead us to do great things.

Jeff and I had the opportunity to do home teaching today (visiting families from church to make friends and share a spiritual message) which always brings back great memories from my mission. I have been really motivated recently to choose activities that lead to personal growth, most of which are sparked by discussions at church. Like today, Linds gave a talk in church about family history, and gaining identity by learning from our ancestors. I want to find some great stories from my side of the family (not that it is a competition, but... you know, it always is). The other talks were on the same subject considering Pioneer Day (Utah holiday) was on Friday.

Lindsey also started working this week as a leasing agent, which is a blessing for our family! Now we are both working, which adds to the busyness of our lives, but at least we work about the same hours now.

Joe came to stay with us, and we totally forgot to get their keys from the office, which was conveniently closed for Pioneer Day, it ended up working out alright, and we had an awesome guest for a few days. We are excited for Joe and Stacie and their upcoming wedding! We all bonded with chocolate milk and pizza, quite a luxury.

Last Monday for family home evening we went with the Halls to play glow in the dark golf. We submitted the largest mountain in Provo, well not really, but we went up to Squaw Peak, and watched our glowing golf balls sail down the mountain. We are grateful for all the friends we have made since moving to our new apartment in Provo.

Other things we have done this summer, that we have failed to write about include:
- Getting married!
- Caribbean cruise
- Moved to Provo
- Travelled to Canada to take/write the MCAT
- canoeing the Provo river
- 4th of July BBQ and fireworks

Can't wait for more summer fun!

Suits and Surprises

Well, I picked it up today and it fit great! No pictures though, don't want to give away the big reveal! School is winding down, and as the usual college student feels, every moment is a struggle. Mostly just a struggle to stay awake or pay attention, but struggle none the less. Lindsey and I are getting tired, not just physically, tired of having to FaceTime for communication, we are definitely looking forward to being able to actually be with each other every day. The countdown continues! School work is beginning to be completed as the last day of the semester draws near. It is the common topic among fellow Cougars, and I think three people told me today that "No one is as excited as you to be done!"... I can't help but agree. I love the things we have been learning in my classes, and my teachers are excellent... but marriage is better.

I had the realization today that it is pretty important to be involved with family... not that I didn't know that before, or have not had this exact same epiphany, but I made an effort to reach out. After all, family is number one! I'm grateful for the chance we have to be starting our own family, how cool is that! I guess you never can fully be ready to be married or have kids, etc. but we are in it for the experience. The journey we will travel is unpredictable, challenging, and rewarding! Just have to make it through finals week alive!

This is it...

Well... This is also the last e-mail I will send to you while I am Elder Heinzlmeir. Yes, it does feel strange. It is hard to explain. I don't even know what to say. Thank you for the comforting words. The long journey is coming again to a cross-road. I am grateful for the support you have given me, and the things I have learned. I miss you, and am excited to see you soon! Thank you for sending me the topic for my talk.

This week went so well. We were really blessed with amazing experiences. The Spirit speaks to us when we are worthy. It allows us to do good, to do the will of the Lord.

I can't wait to share with you the things that I have learned and experienced.

I know God is there, and we can live with him again one day.

I love you mom, see you on Thursday!

The Countdown....

Monday already?

Honestly... I am excited, (about coming home...) but I know I can still do a lot more, so I am trying to be very disciplined and focused. The other Elders and members are all excited too, which makes focus a little more challenging, but it's good for me. I would be down to go to a Chinese restaurant, I haven't been to a good one in months. I could even order in Mandarin. ish. The hardest good bye's will be next week, though I am sure to have a few. It is a little strange to have so much time in advance to know that I am leaving. I'll make the most with the time I have left.

Highlights of the week include great lessons with both Dominic and Frederick. And we gave a sister in the ward a blessing. The next day she called us and told us how she was able to sleep well the night before and how comforted she felt. That was great for me, to really see the difference such a simple act can make. Or the fact that we call Marc everyday to help him through this time in his life that is rather challenging. We don't see immediate changes in his situation but at least once a day he can feel the Spirit and feel loved. My hope is they will all become more converted to the Lord, who can offer these blessing for time and eternity, and for whom I am laboring now. Although I won't be around forever, I know He will be.

I am about three quarters of the way through Jesus the Christ. It is a great book. My scripture reading is helping me to feel happy. I had another cool personal experience this week. I was reviewing notes from my notebook and I came across a list of things I wanted to improve. I wrote it more than a year ago, and as I went down the list I was able to see how much I had truly grown. (I still have a long way to go though).

Thanks for your prayers and support. I miss you and love you very much.

Still going strong...

Good Afternoon!

It is afternoon here at least. This week was great. Glad to hear you had a family BBQ. I think helping with unpacking will be a good activity to help me get into the groove of post-mission life. Missionaries that have gone home have told me that the most difficult part is not knowing what to do, so that solves that problem. I`m excited to see the Ward and how it works, even if it is just for a short time. Let me tell you about my week:

Monday:

Good day as usual, had dinner with the Beaudouin family, then had a lesson with Dominic. They brought us freezies, we were so excited. Well I was at least. I love freezies.

Tuesday:

We had some great lessons. In the evening we visited a member at the hospital. I love visiting people and talking with them, serving them the way Christ would. I guess feeling like you are helping someone makes it worth it.

Wednesday:

We had a lesson with Mike and he accepted our invitation to be baptized! Then we talked about family history with Sister Quijano. Interesting experience today, I was frustrated with myself for some miss-communication with the other Elders. I was really upset, in the moment the thought came to my mind to pray. As I prayed I really felt myself begin to calm down. My mood changed very quickly. This experience increased my understanding of the uses of prayer. Prayer really will change your mood and help you feel happier. It was a good reminder.

Thursday:

We went teaching with Brother Champagne! He is 91 years old! His testimony brightened the room. It was special to have him with us.

Friday:

We went to the hospital again to give a blessing to Hans. He seems to be doing much better. Later, we found out there is a piano outside on a street downtown, so we went there and sang hymns while people were about there evening. We met some very nice people. It was a fun way to do missionary work.

Saturday:

BAPTISM! Today was the baptism of Josée Lachance. The whole day was incredible. A lot of people turned out to support her, which was really nice.

Sunday:

Josée was confirmed, and we had a lot of people come to church. I taught Sunday School and Priesthood. Then we went over for Brother Russell`s 74th birthday! It was a good time.

That is the week in a nut shell. My scripture study was really great this week. I learned (and remembered) many things. I studied chapter 13 of Preach My Gospel to help me better understand certain peoples roles`in missionary work. Especially my own, but also so that I can be more effective in helping. I love you mom!

Short and Sweet

Taylor and I 'chatted' online today so I told him I'd give the overview from our chat for the blog entry...

They went to a primary party with the ward at a park...made him think of his siblings and he's getting excited to see everyone!

They had dinner at a family's home who are from Mexico...they said whenever he wants to go to Cancun, they'd hook him up with lodging etc.!  I'm all over that!

"Wednesday was cool. I think I mentioned that I met a lady on the bus that then a member met at the park the same week. Well, the members invited her and her family over for dinner, and us too. Way for them for doing missionary work. It was so special to really feel that we were working as a team."

"Tuesday we had Zone Meeting and interviews with President Patrick, which is always a great time. Took all day, but was worth it!"

"Oh and we went to the Desjourdy`s when we got back from Longueuil, their daughter leaves this week on her mission to temple square, so their family was down, church was PACKED!"

I can't believe he'll be home in just over 3 weeks!  But who's counting? ;)

Challenges, stress and motivation.

What a Wonderful World!

This week was rather interesting. Many unexpected events that turned it upside down. Luckily we are well anchored and feeling great. I have a lot of mixed feelings right now. We have been facing a lot of challenges, inward and outward, that creates stress. I feel I have however, been managing that stress well. I very motivated to work hard. Although no one we are teaching has agreed to a date to be baptized, I have faith it is still possible. We will work and see what happens.

This week "came to pass" this way:

Monday:

The Elders from Drummondville came down and we played soccer, great way to unwind, and exercise always helps us to be happy. We helped a family in the ward move into their new place that night.

Tuesday:

Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad! 25 Years! Hope you had a wonderful day. Taught a few lessons, had dinner with the Kikongi's and helped another guy move. Everyone moves on Canada day in Quebec... don't ask me why.

Wednesday:

Good district meeting, cool experience. We received a call from the Elders in Quebec. One of the members in the Quebec ward has a sister that lives in Sherbrooke that is interested in learning English. She gave her sister our contact information, and she called us, that night she came to English Class.

Thursday:

We helped our good friend John lay some bricks today, good work. I'm glad Dad always worked with us outside. I appreciate it much more now than I did before.

Friday:

We had a cool experience. The Rivero's are visiting from Venezuela, their daughters family lives here (The Vasquez family). We invited Bishop Rivero (he is a bishop in Venezuela) to come teach a lesson with us. It was so special. It was in Spanish, so I only understood around 65% of the things they were saying but the Spirit was there so strongly! Bishop Rivero shared his testimony about the Atonement and the Book of Mormon, and how living the Gospel helps us and his families. You could just feel the truth behind his words. I know that is true, I have seen it! That was special.

Saturday:

We are helping a man overcome his addictions to cigarettes and alcohol. It was his Birthday today, he called us in the morning and we sang to him. It was really sweet. He really wants to succeed and is trying really hard. It feels good to be able to help someone overcome their struggles, and interesting to see how the Gospel helps them to do that. It gives them the faith and hope they need. And we really see how Heavenly Father strengthens them in time of need.

Sunday:

If you remember back I mentioned we visited a man in a rehabilitation centre. His fiance just moved to Sherbrooke to help take care of him. We visited them again today. It was really special. He is making great progress.

This week in Preach My Gospel I studied all the lessons over and Chapter 11, about helping people to make commitments and helping them to keep the commitments they have made. It is a good chapter, and shows just how we are to provide love and support. We invite people to act, to do things to get closer to Christ. We give them a choice to make. Then when they make the choice, we can do all we can to support them. Isn't that awesome?

Well hope you have a great week! I will send the box. Don't forget about the Scholarship. Thanks. I love you!

Summer in Quebec

Good Morning!

Hope everything is going well, especially with the move coming up! This week was quite enjoyable. It`s been getting quite warm lately. Sweating a lot. That`s also because I have been having great morning exercises. I went for a run this morning, it was great! You feel so much better when you are healthy, and eating right. Speaking of eating right, we had a barbecue yesterday with the Russell`s. it was so good! Followed by a delicious strawberry shortcake. I don`t know if you believe me or not, but I do eat fruit now. Not all the time, but quite often.

Yesterday I gave a talk in Sacrament meeting. I was a little nervous because the night before I had a dream that I went to speak and couldn`t make myself talk! Good thing that didn`t actually come to happen. I gave a talk about Hastening the Work of Salvation. It was a missionary Sunday, something the ward does, where the 5th Sunday all the talks and prayers are missionaries. We even had a musical number. We sang "Called to Serve" (in French of course).

This time of year in Quebec is when everyone moves. Over the last week, everyday we helped at least one person to move things from their apartments. Mostly fridges and ovens and what not. We will be helping a family move tonight as well.

My studies this week have been really rewarding. I have been learning a lot. Mostly I feel I am really understanding the principles I have known for so long. Thanks for teaching me! It is interesting how much time it can take to truly understand something, not just know it.

I think I will send some pictures now, love you so much! Have an excellent week!

Time for the countdown?

Good Morning!

Everything is going well thanks. We received our transfer calls on Saturday... I will be... STAYING!
Another transfer here in Sherbrooke with Elder Gonzalez... my last transfer. Crazy. I should e-mail next Monday as usual. The young men in our ward are going camping this week too.(I had mentioned that both Lewis and Austin will be going on Young Men's camp next week) I`ll definitely help Lew with that and Preach My Gospel so we can get ready for his mission! Hey I have my box to send by bus, I haven`t sent it because I don`t know where to send it. I guess I should just send it to the new house. I need the address though. Also, I haven`t seen pictures of the new house. Glad that Austin had a good year at school. Good luck with school and tests this week.

Monday:

Tacos with Dominic! They were alright, we made them, so I can say that. It was fun though. Played some soccer too. Then we went to Family Home Evening at the church.

Tuesday:

I`m having trouble remembering what we did because I left my old planner at home.

We taught the gospel, visited wonderful people. Helped people feel loved. Went to John`s for breakfast on Saturday (french toast)! Translated at Church yesterday, into English. It was actually a little bit of a slower week, but we are really motivated to find a family ready to accept the Gospel.

Oh, and yesterday we went to the Moreno`s for Mexican food! It was delicious.

This week I was studying Chapter 5 in Preach My Gospel about the Book of Mormon. I love the Book of Mormon, it helps me so much to feel the Spirit. It helps me to learn more of our Saviour. It is so important. What a great gift from our Father in Heaven.

Don`t get me wrong mom, I am pumped to be able to see you. (I was telling him how incredibly excited I am to see him...and I haven't told him much that I miss him or that I can't wait to see him because I didn't want him to be homesick...but now that it's only 6 weeks...I caved!  I told him that it's okay if he doesn't feel the same yet...lol...he's got work to do still!) I know I will not have the chance to serve the Lord in this way again, that is what is sad.

Love you!

New experiences continually...

Good Morning,

Hope all is well :)

We just keep having great weeks, well that`s life right, taking everything one step at a time, and finding joy in every one. First off Happy Father`s day Dad! Hope you all had an excellent weekend. Second Happy Birthday Lewis! 17 already. Wow. Have a super day tomorrow. Hope exams are going well. Keep up the good work! Great that the house sold, that`s awesome. Great to hear Mitch is back out there, and with Aaron, they will make a great team. Just two weeks left for Aaron though. Going into
Real Estate, good idea! (My next adventure...Real Estate!) Actually that reminds of some new ideas for my future plans. Our week went as follows.

Monday:

Had dinner with the James family, they are awesome! They are moving to Halifax in a few weeks, and they actually met Elder Nzojibwami up there. Then we had a lesson with Dominic at the Jette`s home. He wants to be baptized, he is so sincere, also helps that his best friend is a member.

Tuesday:

Went to the Salvador`s again. Oh and we were teaching a family, then they moved, and we didn`t know where, so last week we saw them driving down a street, we went back there and found them again! So that was a cool miracle.

Wednesday:

Good district meeting, and dinner with the Beaudouin`s. Made tons of cookies and dropped them off for people!

Thursday:

I was on exchanges with Elder Lucas (from Tahiti). We had a great day. Met some nice Nigerian ladies that invited us in, but we were just us two so we couldn`t enter, hopefully they call us back. Taught Hans, a member in the ward from Germany. He has met four prophets and a bunch of apostles. Super nice man. Also we dropped by a recent convert, Carol. Turns out she met the Haitian lady we found last week, and talked to her for hours about the church! Then she invited her to come on Sunday. That was amazing!

Friday:

We had a traditional Québecois meal at the Laroche`s house. We had poutine! And a desert that is like cinnamon buns made with pie crust. It was pretty good. Then read scriptures with the Champagne`s!

Saturday:

Lessons all day with African families! Brought Brother Kikongi, he is from Congo, but has been here for a long time. He is the former Bishop. It was sweet!

Sunday:

Went in the morning early to Sister Quijano (72 year old lady from El Salvador) to take the bus with her to church. Directed the music. Sundaes for the men after the meetings! Aubert came with us all day. Had a lesson in the psychiatric ward of the hospital... yup. Oh and dinner with the James again.

I was reading President Packer`s talk from the last General Conference. It is amazing. I was really touched by the beginning where he explains that of all the titles He could of chosen for us to address Him, He chose `Father`. I am so grateful that we have a loving Heavenly Father, and that you and Dad have been such great examples to us. I love our Saviour and know He lives. I know that like Elder Packer says in his talk that the whole purpose of the Gospel is to bless us with happy families. In Preach My Gospel, I was studying Chapter 5 about the Book of Mormon, I am grateful the Lord blessed us with additional scriptures to increase our understanding of the Gospel. I know that is true. Have a great week mom.

Love Elder Heinzlmeir

Here is the talk he referred to:

The Witness

Times of war or uncertainty have a way of sharpening our focus on things that really matter.
World War II was a time of great spiritual turmoil for me. I had left my home in Brigham City, Utah, with only embers of a testimony, and I felt the need for something more. Virtually our whole senior class in a matter of weeks was on its way to the war zone. While stationed on the island of Ie Shima, just north of Okinawa, Japan, I struggled with doubt and uncertainty. I wanted a personal testimony of the gospel. I wanted toknow!
During one sleepless night, I left my tent and entered a bunker which had been formed by lining up 50-gallon fuel drums filled with sand and placed one on top of the other to form an enclosure. There was no roof, and so I crawled in, looked up at the star-filled sky, and knelt to pray.
Almost mid-sentence it happened. I could not describe to you what happened if I were determined to do so. It is beyond my power of expression, but it is as clear today as it was that night more than 65 years ago. I knew it to be a very private, very individual manifestation. At last I knew for myself. I knew for a certainty, for it had been given to me. After some time, I crawled from that bunker and walked, or floated, back to my bed. I spent the rest of the night in a feeling of joy and awe.
Far from thinking I was someone special, I thought that if such a thing came to me, that it could come to anyone. I still believe that. In the years that have followed, I have come to understand that such an experience is at once a light to follow and a burden to carry.
I wish to share with you those truths which are the most worth knowing, the things that I have learned and experienced in nearly 90 years of life and over 50 years as a General Authority. Much of what I have come to know falls into the category of things which cannot be taught but can be learned.
Like most things of great worth, knowledge which is of eternal value comes only through personal prayer and pondering. These, joined with fasting and scripture study, will invite impressions and revelations and the whisperings of the Holy Spirit. This provides us with instruction from on high as we learn precept upon precept.
The revelations promise that “whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection” and that “knowledge and intelligence [are gained] through … diligence and obedience” (D&C 130:18–19).
One eternal truth that I have come to know is that God lives. He is our Father. We are His children. “We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost” (Articles of Faith 1:1).
Of all the other titles that He could have used, He chose to be called “Father.” The Savior commanded, “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father who art in heaven” (3 Nephi 13:9; see also Matthew 6:9). His use of the name “Father” is a lesson for all as we come to understand what it is that matters most in this life.
Parenthood is a sacred privilege, and depending upon faithfulness, it can be an eternal blessing. The ultimate end of all activity in the Church is that a man and his wife and their children can be happy at home.
Those who do not marry or those who cannot have children are not excluded from the eternal blessings they seek but which, for now, remain beyond their reach. We do not always know how or when blessings will present themselves, but the promise of eternal increase will not be denied any faithful individual who makes and keeps sacred covenants.
Your secret yearnings and tearful pleadings will touch the heart of both the Father and the Son. You will be given a personal assurance from Them that your life will be full and that no blessing that is essential will be lost to you.
As a servant of the Lord, acting in the office to which I have been ordained, I give those in such circumstances a promise that there will be nothing essential to your salvation and exaltation that shall not in due time rest upon you. Arms now empty will be filled, and hearts now hurting from broken dreams and yearning will be healed.
Another truth I have come to know is that the Holy Ghost is real. He is the third member of the Godhead. His mission is to testify of truth and righteousness. He manifests Himself in many ways, including feelings of peace and reassurance. He can also bring comfort, guidance, and correction when needed. The companionship of the Holy Ghost is maintained throughout our lives by righteous living.
The gift of the Holy Ghost is conferred through an ordinance of the gospel. One with authority lays his hands on the head of a new member of the Church and says words such as these: “Receive the Holy Ghost.”
This ordinance alone does not change us in a noticeable way, but if we listen and follow the promptings, we will receive the blessing of the Holy Ghost. Each son or daughter of our Heavenly Father can come to know the reality of Moroni’s promise: “By the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things” (Moroni 10:5; emphasis added).
A supernal truth that I have gained in my life is my witness of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Foremost and underpinning all that we do, anchored throughout the revelations, is the Lord’s name, which is the authority by which we act in the Church. Every prayer offered, even by little children, ends in the name of Jesus Christ. Every blessing, every ordinance, every ordination, every official act is done in the name of Jesus Christ. It is His Church, and it is named for Him—The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (see D&C 115:4).
There is that great incident in the Book of Mormon where the Nephites “were praying unto the Father in [the Lord’s] name.” The Lord appeared and asked:
“What will ye that I shall give unto you?
“And they said unto him: Lord, we will that thou wouldst tell us the name whereby we shall call this church; for there are disputations among the people concerning this matter.
“And the Lord said unto them: Verily, verily, I say unto you, why is it that the people should murmur and dispute because of this thing?
“Have they not read the scriptures, which say ye must take upon you the name of Christ, which is my name? For by this name shall ye be called at the last day;
“And whoso taketh upon him my name, and endureth to the end, the same shall be saved. …
“Therefore, whatsoever ye shall do, ye shall do it in my name; therefore ye shall call the church in my name; and ye shall call upon the Father in my name that he will bless the church for my sake” (3 Nephi 27:2–7).
It is His name, Jesus Christ, “for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
In the Church we know who He is: Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He is the Only Begotten of the Father. He is He who was slain and He who liveth again. He is our Advocate with the Father. “Remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that [we] must build [our] foundation” (Helaman 5:12). He is the anchor that holds us and protects us and our families through the storms of life.
Each Sunday across the world where congregations gather of any nationality or tongue, the sacrament is blessed with the same words. We take upon ourselves the name of Christ and always remember Him. That is imprinted upon us.
The prophet Nephi declared, “We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins” (2 Nephi 25:26).
Each of us must come to our own personal testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ. We then share that testimony with our family and others.
In all of this, let us remember that there is an adversary who personally seeks to disrupt the work of the Lord. We must choose whom to follow. Our protection is as simple as deciding individually to follow the Savior, making certain that we faithfully will remain on His side.
In the New Testament, John records that there were some who were unable to commit to the Savior and His teachings, and “from that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.
“Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?
“Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
“And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God” (John 6:66–69).
Peter had gained that which can be learned by each follower of the Savior. To be faithfully devoted to Jesus Christ, we accept Him as our Redeemer and do all within our power to live His teachings.
After all the years that I have lived and taught and served, after the millions of miles I have traveled around the world, with all that I have experienced, there is one great truth that I would share. That is my witness of the Savior Jesus Christ.
Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon recorded the following after a sacred experience:
“And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!
“For we saw him” (D&C 76:22–23).
Their words are my words.
I believe and I am sure that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that He lives. He is the Only Begotten of the Father, and “by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God” (D&C 76:24).
I bear my witness that the Savior lives. I know the Lord. I am His witness. I know of His great sacrifice and eternal love for all of Heavenly Father’s children. I bear my special witness in all humility but with absolute certainty, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
